Application Schedule
Scoring
Scoring is performed after forms are busted and framers chalk off all walls (both sides) with blue chalk and before framing on the bare slab. We must have one 110V outlet on a 20amp circuit breaker within 200' of furthest point on slab. CCD offers straight line, shallow scoring of grids and welcomes custom work such as deep scoring, wide scoring, twin blades, radius cuts, diamonds, various patterns, compass roses, Texas stars, medallions, design layout and your ideas.
Stain/Prefinish
Stain/Prefinish is applied immediately after dry-in, before insulation, sheetrock or masonry work including stucco. We must have two 110V outlets on two separate 20amp circuit breakers within 150' of furthest point on slab. We must also have clean water available on site. CCD offers a range of stain colors. The stain are applied in various ways to create more possibilities. The stain etches into the finished surface of the slab and lasts as long as the concrete finish. CCD has completed many custom projects and welcomes custom work - multiple colors either individual or layered, intricate multi-colored patterns, templates, and your ideas.
Final Finish
Final finish is applied after all trades are completely finished (i.e. painters, carpet installers and clean-up crews). Any paint, stain, texture, etc. should be removed by the painters or cleaning crew prior to CCD arrival. They may use water, paint thinner, scrapers, wire brushes, etc. CCD is not a cleaning crew and will assess additional charges for clean up at final finish (expensive). There will also be additional charges for work requested after final finish is completed. However, any additional work will be approved by the responsible party before the work is done and charges are incurred. CCD would prefer to apply final finish at least 24 hours prior to occupancy.
Floor Care
Instructions for the Maintenance of Acid Stained Concrete Floors:
Floors by Classic Concrete Design are easy to care for. If you live in a dry, dusty climate, be aware that continual sand abrasion will scratch through our waxes and sealers. We strongly recommend a foot wiping mat at each entrance to your property. Particularly in commercial applications, you should go over the floors with a cotton-polyester dust mop once a day. Static electricity created by the mop head picks up sand and dust fairly well. When the wax in traffic areas begins to look dull or scratched it is time to apply a new coating. In commercial establishments you may want to wax every two weeks, at least until you have built up 6 coats or so. In a residence without dogs you may not need to wax for 3 or 4 months. The wax is easy to apply and dries in 30 minutes. However, it continues to cure and harden for three days. Therefore, heavy traffic should be avoided on new wax for this length of time.
Grit Control: Controlling grit is crucial to prolonging the attractive appearance of your architectural concrete flooring. The best way to control grit is simply by using walk-off mats. Recommended mats have a high friction open surface designed to knock grit particles off the bottom of shoes and then trap the particles. Ideally, mats should be used at every entrance and should be as wide as the doorway and approximately 5'-6' long. Walk-off mats designed for exterior doorways are the most desired.
Daily Maintenance: Dust mop using a cotton-polyester mop.
At least one a week: Mop using S.C. Johnson Neutral floor cleaner, following lable intructions, to remove build up soil or other contaminates. (available at Lowe's)
Long Term/Re-Coating Maintenance: Frequency of this maintenance will depend on traffic and low or high usage of flooring.
1. Dust mop or sweep.
2. Deep scrub floor using double strength dilution of "Neutral cleaner" Apply 3-5 thin base coats of SC Johnson "Stone & Terrazzo floor finish" (lowes) using rayon finish mop allowing one hour drying time between coats.
3. This high luster finish can be maintained by applying additional coats of floor finish when needed, or buffed with a high speed buffer (using white polishing pad) when needed which is a better choice to avoid build up of successive coats of floor finish and decrease labor costs.
*NEVER USE AMMONIA OR BLEACH ON YOUR FLOORS! It may turn the wax cloudy.
*NEVER APPLY MASKING OR DUCT TAPE TO YOUR FLOORS! When pulled up later, it can remove 3 or 4 coatings from your floor.
* It is recognized and agreed upon that the above maintenance program will be followed.
** Floors should be kept clear of standing water or contaminants which could cause slippage.
